Homework -> Pre-Homework Computer Setup
When working with websites it really helps to be able to...
- view the names of files and folders in a list view AND
- see filename extensions -- Windows and Mac hide these by default so you must activate them.
To work with websites, I reccomend you
make the following changes
- For Windows XP Users
- Open any folder
- Select View > Details from the menu. You should now have a list-like view of any files that are in the folder you opened.
- Go to Tools > Folder Options > click on the View tab. Under the caption Folder Views click the Like Current Folder button. Click Yes when prompted.
- Below the Like Current Folder button you just clicked on there is an Advanced settings: menu with checkboxes
- Uncheck the box stating Hide file extensions for known file types
- Click OK
- For Vista/Windows 7 Users
- Open any folder
- Click the arrow next to the Views button
on the toolbar
, and choose the Details setting. You should now have a list-like view of any files that are in the folder you opened.
- On the toolbar, click Organize, and then click Folder and search options.
- In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab
- Click the Apply to Folders button, click Yes when prompted
- Below the Apply to Folders button you just clicked on there is an Advanced settings: menu with checkboxes
- Uncheck the box stating Hide extensions for known file types
